1. நாற்சதுர இணைகள் (Tetrominoes)

• Domino (இருசதுர இணை): Formed by joining 2 squares edge to edge. (2 சதுரங்களை விளிம்புகளில் ஒன்றோடொன்று இணைப்பதால் உருவாவது).
• Trinomino (முச்சதுர இணை): Formed by joining 3 squares. “Tri” means three. (3 சதுரங்களை இணைப்பதால் உருவாவது. ‘டிரை’ என்பது மூன்று எனப் பொருள்படும்).
• Tetromino (நாற்சதுர இணை): Formed by joining 4 squares. “Tetra” means four. There are exactly 5 different shapes of Tetrominoes. (4 சதுரங்களை இணைப்பதால் உருவாவது. ‘டெட்ரா’ என்பது நான்கு எனப் பொருள்படும். 5 விதமான வடிவங்கள் உள்ளன).
• Total Squares: The 5 tetrominoes together consist of 20 squares (5 x 4 = 20). (ஐந்து நாற்சதுர இணைகளை இணைக்கும்போது 20 சதுரங்கள் உருவாகின்றன).

2. செவ்வகங்களை நிரப்புதல் (Filling Rectangles)

• We cannot form a complete rectangle using the 5 tetrominoes exactly once. (ஐந்து நாற்சதுர இணைகளையும் ஒருமுறை மட்டும் பயன்படுத்திச் செவ்வகத்தை முழுமையாக நிரப்ப முடியாது).
• Reason: If colored like a chessboard, 4 shapes have equal shaded and unshaded squares, but 1 shape (the T-shape) has unequal shaded and unshaded squares. (நான்கு நாற்சதுர இணைகளில் வண்ணமிட்ட மற்றும் வண்ணமிடப்படாத சதுரங்கள் சம அளவில் உள்ளன. ஆனால் ஒன்றில் மட்டும் சம அளவில் இல்லை).
• If we use all 5 tetrominoes twice (total 40 squares), we can completely fill rectangles of sizes 5×8 and 4×10. (இருமுறை பயன்படுத்தும்போது 5×8 மற்றும் 4×10 செவ்வகங்களை முழுமையாக நிரப்பலாம்).

3. பாதை வரைபடம் (Route Maps)

• Maps help us to find the shortest possible route between two locations. (ஒரு இடத்திலிருந்து மற்றொரு இடத்திற்குச் செல்வதற்கான மிகக்குறைந்த தொலைவுள்ள வழித்தடத்தை கண்டறிய பாதை வரைபடம் பயன்படுகிறது).
• Using a scale (e.g., 1 unit = 100m), distances on a map can be calculated to find the optimal path. (வரைபடத்தில் உள்ள அளவுகோலை பயன்படுத்தித் தொலைவைக் கணக்கிடலாம்).
