Algebra (இயற்கணிதம்)

Constant (மாறிலி): A symbol having a fixed numerical value. (மாறாத எண் மதிப்பைக் கொண்டது மாறிலி. எ.கா: 31, -7, 10).
Variable (மாறி): A symbol which takes various numerical values. (மாறுபடும் பல எண் மதிப்புகளைக் கொண்டது மாறி. எ.கா: x, y, z).
Variables and constants are combined by addition and subtraction to construct an algebraic expression. (கூட்டல், கழித்தல் செயலிகள் மூலம் மாறிகளையும் மாறிலிகளையும் இணைப்பதே இயற்கணிதக் கோவையாகும்).

The parts of an algebraic expression combined by ‘+’ or ‘-‘ are called the terms (உறுப்புகள்).
An expression with one term is called a monomial (ஓருறுப்புக் கோவை), two terms is a binomial (ஈருறுப்புக் கோவை), and three terms is a trinomial (மூவுறுப்புக் கோவை).
The number in the variable term is called the numerical co-efficient (எண்கெழு). (எ.கா: 5xy இல், எண்கெழு 5 ஆகும்).
If no numerical co-efficient appears, it is understood to be 1. (ஓர் உறுப்பில் எண்கெழு இல்லாதபோது அது 1 எனக் கருதப்படும்).

Like Terms (ஒத்த உறுப்புகள்): Terms having the same algebraic factors (variables). (ஒரே மாறிகளைக் கொண்ட உறுப்புகள். எ.கா: 7x, 5x, 12x).
Unlike Terms (மாறுபட்ட உறுப்புகள்): Terms with different algebraic factors. (மாறுபட்ட மாறிகளைக் கொண்ட உறுப்புகள். எ.கா: 12x, -16).
We can add or subtract like terms only. Unlike terms cannot be added or subtracted. (ஒத்த உறுப்புகளை மட்டுமே கூட்டவோ, கழிக்கவோ முடியும்).

An equation is an algebraic expression equated either to a constant or to any other algebraic expression. (ஒரு சமன்பாடு என்பது ஒரு மாறிலிக்கோ அல்லது மற்றொரு இயற்கணிதக் கோவைக்கோ சமப்படுத்தப்பட்ட கோவையாகும்).
To solve an equation, we can add, subtract, multiply, or divide the same number on both sides. (ஒரு சமன்பாட்டைத் தீர்க்க அதன் இருபுறமும் ஒரே எண்ணைக் கூட்டவோ, கழிக்கவோ, பெருக்கவோ, வகுக்கவோ செய்யலாம்).
